Why this site. Sigiriya is one of the best-preserved examples of ancient urban planning anywhere: water gardens still running on 1,500-year-old hydraulics, a mirror wall, a palace on a volcanic plug. Our geometry test on the region comes back consistent with chance, and it is worth saying that our catalogue only offered the engine nine sites to work with, which is thin. A small sample is a limit on us, not a verdict on Sri Lanka.
