Why this site. Abu Simbel is the rare monument whose modern history is as remarkable as its ancient one: a temple physically taken apart and rebuilt to survive a dam. Its twice-yearly solar alignment is real, dated and still observable, which makes it one of the few genuinely verified alignments in our whole catalogue.
